Bocce

Bocce – Team, Wheelchair Accessible

Bocce is played on a 12x60 court, with the court ends and sidewalls measuring between three and four inches in height.  We play on grass courts.  Bocce is played by two Teams of four; however, Bocce is viewed as an Individual Sport.  As such, coaching is not allowed during the actual Competition.  Teams can be either Traditional (four Athletes) or Unified (two Athletes and two Unified Partners).

Evaluations are conducted at the beginning of each Practice Season in order to construct Teams of Athletes of similar Ages and Skill Levels.

Bocce is played with eight Bocce (four Bocce of two different colors) and one Pallina.  The objective of the game is to roll the Bocce toward the Pallina in order to score Points.  Points are awarded only to the Team who has rolled their Bocce closest to the Pallina in each Round.  One to four Points will be awarded per Round and the first Team to score 16 Points wins.

The Athletes should be able to:

Follow directions from the Coaches
Pick up, hold and roll the Pallina and/or Bocce*
Recognize the various court lines and know what each means
Gain a basic understanding of the Rules and Scoring
Recognize when it is their turn to roll the Pallina and/or Bocce
Roll the Pallina and/or Bocce in a comfortable and legitimate manner
Use court walls and other Bocce on the court strategically if possible
We will hand the Pallina/Bocce to Athletes where needed

Practices are at Central Park on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30/8:00 depending on loss of daylight.  Athletes MUST wear closed-toe shoes!
